About Maesetsu! Opening Act

Meet Maesetsu! Opening Act (まえせつ！), a comedy and slice of life anime by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ (2020). Here is the premise in a nutshell. The setup: When four hardworking allies pair up to chase their dream of becoming professional stand-up comedians, they rapidly find out that being funny is seriously difficult! Join Fubuki, Mafuyu, Rin, Nayuta, and the rest of their hilarious pals as they overcome obstacles on the quest to achieving their ultimate goal: performing live at the Namba Grand Kagetsu!

In a comedy series like this, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Voice work is led by Junki Tomita as Junki Tomita and Aguri Onishi as Fubuki Kitakaze.

Think of it as a pick for viewers who want something light between heavier series. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, which means the visual identity of Maesetsu! Opening Act follows that studio's craft. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. With a 5.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Junki Tomita as Junki Tomita, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2020, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
