InuYasha

About InuYasha

Here is what InuYasha (犬夜叉) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, adventure and comedy anime by Kyoto Animation and Sunrise (2000). In short: Kagome Higurashi, an average ninth grader, gets pulled into a long-lost well by a demon, bringing her 500 years in the past to the feudal era. There, she runs into Inuyasha, a half-demon who seeks the Shikon Jewel to make himself a full-fledged demon.

From there, with Inuyasha and new companions, Kagome's search for the Jewel of Four Souls begins...

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha and Satsuki Yukino as Kagome Higurashi. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 167 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Kyoto Animation and Sunrise, so the studio's house style defines how InuYasha looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. At 7.7/10 it earns a solid reception, a safe pick for fans of the genre. On the casting side, Kappei Yamaguchi voicing Inuyasha gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2000, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
