Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

About Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (半妖の夜叉姫) arrives as an action anime by Sunrise (2020), and the premise is easy to summarize. In short: The daughters of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha set out on a quest transcending time! In Feudal Japan, Half-Demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire.

Along the way, while desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family. Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a Demon Slayer working for Kohaku. To Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha and Satsuki Yukino as Kagome Higurashi. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. The run is 24 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Sunrise, which means the visual identity of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon follows that studio's craft. Because it leans on action, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.5/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2020, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
