Birdy the Mighty: Decode

About Birdy the Mighty: Decode

Meet Birdy the Mighty: Decode (鉄腕バーディー DECODE), an action, comedy and sci-fi anime by A-1 Pictures (2008). Here is the premise in a nutshell. The premise: Tsutomu Senkawa is an average high school kid who is busy studying for his senior entrance exams. Tsutomu goes out for some fresh air, after a hard day's work studying for a big test, when he runs into a guy fleeing from a pretty young lady.

As things develop, the pursued man is actually an interplanetary criminal on the run from a Federation agent called Birdy Cephon Altera. Caught in the midst of this chase, Tsutomu gets thrown by the man at Birdy, which kills Tsutomu. Fortunately for Tsutomu, there is a way to keep him alive, although it comes at the price of discarding his body.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Saeko Chiba as Birdy Cephon Altera and Miyu Irino as Tsutomu Senkawa. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 13 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
