Cinderella Boy

About Cinderella Boy

Cinderella Boy (シンデレラボーイ) blends action, adventure and comedy by Magic Bus (2003). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. At its core: Ranma is a poor private detective with a strong sense of justice. His partner, Rella, is a thrill-seeking rich girl.

Along the way, they make for an odd couple on the perilous streets of Kirin Town, until a run-in with a mafia boss ends up in a near-fatal car accident. Ranma wakes up at the scene, but it is days later and Rella is nowhere in sight. He gets back on the case to find out what happened to his partner, but at the stroke of midnight, a metamorphosis occurs, as Ranma is replaced by Rella.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Takehito Koyasu as Ranma Hinamatsuri and Yumi Touma as Rella Cindy Shirayuki. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. At 13 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Magic Bus, so the studio's house style defines how Cinderella Boy looks and moves on screen. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 5.9/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Takehito Koyasu voicing Ranma Hinamatsuri gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 2003, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
