Celestial Method

About Celestial Method

Meet Celestial Method (天体のメソッド), a drama, fantasy and slice of life anime by Studio 3Hz and Orange (2014). Here is the premise in a nutshell. At its core: It's been seven years since Nonoka Komiya last lived in Lake Kiriya Metropolis. However, while she knew that there would be changes in the town, she's still unprepared for what she finds upon her return: A giant saucer hovers over the entire city, as it has since shortly after she and her family left.

Beyond that: Stranger yet, a girl she doesn't know, Noel, is waiting for her, claiming that they have met before. Confused, Nonaka tries to focus on reconnecting with her old companions, but odd memories, suppressed in the wake of her mother's death, begin to float to the top of her consciousness. Can it be that she has met Noel before?

With drama at the core, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Voice work is led by Inori Minase as Noel and Shiina Natsukawa as Nonoka Komiya. It will appeal most to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. The run is 13 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Studio 3Hz and Orange is the studio behind Celestial Method, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. Because it leans on drama, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Its 6.4/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Inori Minase voicing Noel gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2014, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
