Celestial Method

About Celestial Method

Celestial Method (天体のメソッド) blends drama, fantasy and slice of life by Studio 3Hz and Orange (2014). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. The premise: It's been seven years since Nonoka Komiya last lived in Lake Kiriya Town. However, while she knew that there would be changes in the town, she's still unprepared for what she stumbles on upon her return: A giant saucer hovers over the entire metropolis, as it has since shortly after she and her family left.

Beyond that: Stranger yet, a girl she doesn't know, Noel, is waiting for her, claiming that they have met before. Confused, Nonaka tries to focus on reconnecting with her old friends, but odd memories, suppressed in the wake of her mother's death, begin to float to the top of her consciousness. Can it be that she has met Noel before?

In a drama series like this, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Noel (Inori Minase) and Nonoka Komiya (Shiina Natsukawa) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action, put it on your list. The run is 13 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Studio 3Hz and Orange, so the studio's house style defines how Celestial Method looks and moves on screen. Because it leans on drama, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. With a 6.4/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Inori Minase voicing Noel gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2014, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
