Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

About Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

Meet Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage (BLACK LAGOON The Second Barrage), an action, adventure and drama anime by MADHOUSE and Front Line (2006). Here is the premise in a nutshell. What the story covers: Okajima Rokuro - now known almost exclusively as 'Rock' - was once a typical, put-upon Japanese businessman. Then, on a routine business trip, he was kidnapped and ransomed by the Lagoon Company: a band of mercenary pirates operating out of the crime-riddled town of Roanapur.

Beyond that: Abandoned by his bosses, he joined the Lagoon Company. Now he needs to try and stay afloat amongst the ever-shifting politics of the criminal underworld, while simultaneously avoiding death at the hands of his quick-tempered, gun-toting co-worker, 'Two Hand' Revy.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Dutch (Tsutomu Isobe) and Revy (Megumi Toyoguchi) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by MADHOUSE and Front Line, so the studio's house style defines how Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. A community score of 8.0/10 puts it among the better-received action titles. Voice casting, including Tsutomu Isobe as Dutch, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2006, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
