New Fist of the North Star

About New Fist of the North Star

Meet New Fist of the North Star (新・北斗の拳), an action and sci-fi anime by A.C.G.T. and Pastel (2003). Here is the premise in a nutshell. In short: In a post-apocalyptic Earth, the water has become entirely toxic, except for some kept safe in a reservoir. A fortified zone has been created by a man named Sanga, he calls it The Lastland.

Further in, a group of villagers have discovered safe water, and Sanga wants it. He and his band of killers go to kill everyone and steal it. As they do an enigmatic man apperes out of nowhere, instantly killing some of Sanga's men.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Kenshirou (Takehito Koyasu) and Seiji (Gackt) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 3 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by A.C.G.T. and Pastel, so the studio's house style defines how New Fist of the North Star looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.6/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Takehito Koyasu as Kenshirou, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2003, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
