JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

About JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Here is what JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, adventure and drama anime by APPP (1993). The premise: Kujo Jotaro is a normal, popular Japanese high-schooler, until he thinks that he is possessed by a spirit, and locks himself in prison. After seeing his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and fighting Joseph's companion Muhammad Abdul, Jotaro learns that the "Spirit" is actually Star Platinum, his Stand, or fighting energy given a semi-solid form.

As things develop, later, his mother gains a Stand, and grows into sick. Jotaro learns that it is because the vampire Dio Brando has been revived 100 years after his defeat to Jonathan Joestar, Jotaro's great-great-grandfather. Jotaro chooses to join Joseph and Abdul in a trip to Egypt to defeat Dio once and for all.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Joutarou Kuujou (Juurouta Kosugi) and Dio Brando (Nobuo Tanaka) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 6 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by APPP, so the studio's house style defines how JoJo's Bizarre Adventure looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. A 7.3/10 score points to a dependable, well-liked series. Voice casting, including Juurouta Kosugi as Joutarou Kuujou, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 1993, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
