JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

About JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Looking for background on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険)? This action, adventure and drama series by APPP (1993) starts out like this. In short: Kujo Jotaro is a normal, popular Japanese high-schooler, until he thinks that he is possessed by a spirit, and locks himself in prison. After seeing his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and fighting Joseph's ally Muhammad Abdul, Jotaro learns that the "Spirit" is actually Star Platinum, his Stand, or fighting energy given a semi-solid form.

Soon after, later, his mother gains a Stand, and grows into sick. Jotaro learns that it is because the vampire Dio Brando has been revived 100 years after his defeat to Jonathan Joestar, Jotaro's great-great-grandfather. Jotaro decides to join Joseph and Abdul in a trip to Egypt to defeat Dio once and for all.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Juurouta Kosugi as Joutarou Kuujou and Nobuo Tanaka as Dio Brando. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 6 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with APPP, which means the visual identity of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. A 7.3/10 score points to a dependable, well-liked series. On the casting side, Juurouta Kosugi voicing Joutarou Kuujou gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1993, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
