Battle Athletes Victory

About Battle Athletes Victory

If you are hunting for a new action series, Battle Athletes Victory (バトルアスリーテス大運動会) deserves a look (1997). The setup goes like this. In short: Akari Kanzaki has just joined an all-girls academy in hopes of entering the University Satellite, an elite sports training facility. She wants to win the title of Cosmo Beauty - a title held years ago by her mother.

Along the way, it's not an easy task for her as fear, doubt and peer pressure get in her way, but friends, rivals and fans slowly encourage her to overcome her obstacles and become the best of the Clash Athletes.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Rio Natsuki as Akari Kanzaki and Aya Hisakawa as Ichino Yanagida. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 26 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

AIC is the studio behind Battle Athletes Victory, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.4/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Rio Natsuki voicing Akari Kanzaki gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1997, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
