Macross 7 Plus

About Macross 7 Plus

Macross 7 Plus (マクロス7ぷらす) blends comedy, mecha and music by Ashi Productions (1995). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. In short: A series of 2-3 minute shorts revealing the everyday life of some characters, back-story of others, and the occasional music video. Originally included as extras on the Macross 7 VHS and laserdisc releases.

As a comedy title, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Mylene Flare Jenius (Tomo Sakurai) and Basara Nekki (Nobutoshi Kanna) are two of the characters you will meet early.

It will appeal most to viewers who want something light between heavier series. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Ashi Productions, which means the visual identity of Macross 7 Plus follows that studio's craft. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Its 6.5/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Tomo Sakurai voicing Mylene Flare Jenius gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1995, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
