Soar High! Isami

About Soar High! Isami

If you are hunting for a new action series, Soar High! Isami (飛べ！イサミ) deserves a look (1995). The setup goes like this. In short: Isami Hanaoka is just a fifth grader who happens to be a descendant of the Shinsengumi. Together with fellow descendants and classmates Soushi Yukimi and Toshi Tsukikage, she discovers in the basement of her home.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Michiyo Nakajima as Isami Hanaoka and Yoshiko Kamei as Toshi Tsukikage.

It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 50 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Group TAC, so the studio's house style defines how Soar High! Isami looks and moves on screen. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.6/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Michiyo Nakajima voicing Isami Hanaoka gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1995, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
