801 T.T.S. Airbats

About 801 T.T.S. Airbats

801 T.T.S. Airbats (青空少女隊) arrives as an adventure anime by Studio Fantasia (1994), and the premise is easy to summarize. In short: When aviation mechanic (and anime fanboy) Takuya Isurugi is transferred to the 801st Tactical Training Squadron, he gets more than he bargained for. Moderated by hard-headed veteran ace Mitsuru Konishi, the "Airbats" are an all-female aerial acrobatic team consisting of loose cannons Miyuki Haneda and Arisa Mitaka, karaoke freak and gambling genius Sakura Saginomiya.

Next up: Both Haneda and Mitaka do not get along with each other, and their rivalry worsens when they both fall for Isurugi. With the entire JASDF having doubts about the team, the Airbats has to work as a team or face total disbandment.

As an adventure title, exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. Mitsuru Konishi (Norio Wakamoto) and Arisa Mitaka (Ai Orikasa) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for anyone who enjoys travel-the-world storytelling. With 7 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Studio Fantasia, which means the visual identity of 801 T.T.S. Airbats follows that studio's craft. The adventure focus matters here: exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. With a 6.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Norio Wakamoto as Mitsuru Konishi, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. It aired in 1994, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
