Pale Cocoon

About Pale Cocoon

Pale Cocoon (ペイル・コクーン) blends drama and sci-fi by Studio Rikka (2005). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. In short: A future where the continuity of history has broken off, a realm of enormous ruins that continues endlessly. Oceans and continents have vanished, existing only within the archives brought up from the remains.

More of the story: Ura works in the Archive Excavation Department, which restores and analyzes the data left behind. One day, he comes across a disturbing visual record...

As a drama title, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Voice work is led by Michio Nakao as Ura and Yuka Koyama as Yoko Yamaguchi. It will appeal most to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Studio Rikka, which means the visual identity of Pale Cocoon follows that studio's craft. The drama focus matters here: character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Its 6.8/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Voice casting, including Michio Nakao as Ura, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2005, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
