Vampire Princess Miyu

About Vampire Princess Miyu

Here is what Vampire Princess Miyu (吸血姫美夕) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, drama and horror anime by AIC (1988). In short: A quiet gothic horror story about a vampire girl, Miyu, whose destiny it is to hunt down murderous demons known as Shinma and return them to their land of origin, the Dark. Miyu is pursued by the Spiritualist Himiko, determined to find out who Miyu is and to stop her from sucking the life blood from helpless humans.

Beyond that: Each of the four episodes chronicle one of Miyu's encounters with a Shinma and the humans that it is affecting, from the perspective of Himiko's pursuit of Miyu.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Miyu Yamano (Naoko Watanabe) and Larva (Kaneto Shiozawa) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 4 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by AIC, so the studio's house style defines how Vampire Princess Miyu looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 6.5/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Naoko Watanabe voicing Miyu Yamano gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 1988, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
