Macross Frontier

About Macross Frontier

Meet Macross Frontier (マクロスF), an action, mecha and music anime by Satelight (2008). Here is the premise in a nutshell. What the story covers: After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school pupil Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular.

Beyond that: Alto rapidly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his companions and Macross Frontier.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Alto Saotome (Yuuichi Nakamura) and Sheryl Nome (Aya Endou) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. At 25 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Satelight, so the studio's house style defines how Macross Frontier looks and moves on screen. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. A 7.6/10 score points to a dependable, well-liked series. Voice casting, including Yuuichi Nakamura as Alto Saotome, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2008, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
