Hanaukyou Maid-tai

About Hanaukyou Maid-tai

Meet Hanaukyou Maid-tai (花右京メイド隊), a comedy, ecchi and romance anime by Daume (2001). Here is the premise in a nutshell. At its core: After losing his mother, 12-year-old Taro journeys to Tokyo to live with his grandfather. But he gets the biggest surprise when he learns that his grandfather's home is a huge mansion with hundreds of beautiful maids ready to serve him.

Another thread: Making matters worse (at least for Taro, but not for our viewing) is that not only does he inherit the Hanaukyo mansion, he gets the services of all of the maids 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As a comedy title, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Voice work is led by Rie Tanaka as Mariel and Yuki Kaida as Tarou Hanaukyou. Think of it as a pick for viewers who want something light between heavier series. At 12 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.
