Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden

About Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden

Looking for background on Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden (まほろまてぃっく)? This comedy, ecchi and romance series by GAINAX and Shaft (2001) starts out like this. What the story covers: Vesper is a secret agency fighting an army of alien invaders by using super-mighty battle androids. Mahoro is Vesper's most formidable battle android and has won many fights, but she has little operating time left and soon will cease to function.

More of the story: However, if she lays down her arms and conserves her remaining ability, the time she has left can be prolonged to just over a year. Mahoro is given an opportunity to live the remaining time she has as a normal human. She chooses to live as a maid for Suguru, a phenomenally messy high school learner who lives by himself after his family passed away.

With comedy at the core, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Voice work is led by Ayako Kawasumi as Mahoro Andou and Fujiko Takimoto as Suguru Misato. If you count yourself among viewers who want something light between heavier series, put it on your list. With 12 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with GAINAX and Shaft, which means the visual identity of Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden follows that studio's craft. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Its 6.8/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Voice casting, including Ayako Kawasumi as Mahoro Andou, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. It aired in 2001, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
