Zettai Shounen

About Zettai Shounen

Zettai Shounen (絶対少年) arrives as a drama anime by Ajiado and Ginga Ya (2005), and the premise is easy to summarize. The setup: Aizawa Ayumu is a young boy, who is sent to a small town called Tana to live with his father for a while. Even though he doesn't want to go, he agrees to do so when his mother offers him a mountain bike.

Also worth knowing: Ayumu used to live in Tana before, and now his memories of the time are shrouded in mystery - apparently something happened when he was a child. Enter Miku, a young girl who knows more than she tells, weird glowing lights floating around, reflections of UFOish objects in the eyes of cats and dogs, a nosy female announcer, a forest with a mysterious past.

In a drama series like this, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Ayumu Aizawa (Toshiyuki Toyonaga) and Ryousuke Sakakura (Yakkun Sakurazuka) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 26 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Ajiado and Ginga Ya is the studio behind Zettai Shounen, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The drama focus matters here: character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Its 6.5/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Toshiyuki Toyonaga voicing Ayumu Aizawa gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2005, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
