Miracle☆Girls

About Miracle☆Girls

Here is what Miracle☆Girls (ミラクル☆ガールズ) is about, retold in plain terms: a drama, romance and slice of life anime by Japan Taps (1993). In short: Mikage and Tomomi Matsunaga are Miracle Girls, they have a telepathic link with each other and can teleport when they link their little fingers. Tomomi is a sports star and has a boyfriend called Noda.

Beyond that: Mikage is the smartest learner in the school and is in love with her senpai. He moved to London to study but they still kept in touch, that is until a selfish princess called Marie chooses that he should come with her back to Diammas. Back in Japan the twins are having various problems of their own.

As a drama title, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Voice work is led by Nariko Fujieda as Tomomi Matsunaga and Noriko Hidaka as Mikage Matsunaga. It will appeal most to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 51 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Japan Taps, which means the visual identity of Miracle☆Girls follows that studio's craft. Because it leans on drama, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. With a 6.8/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Nariko Fujieda voicing Tomomi Matsunaga gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1993, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
