D4 Princess

About D4 Princess

Meet D4 Princess (D4 プリンセス), an action, comedy and mecha anime by Daume (1999). Here is the premise in a nutshell. In short: Doris Ruridou is young princess who had just entered Teito Academy. She is also a Panzer, a person with special abilities and fights with a weapon called a "tool".

Next up: Shortly after entering, her older sister shows up to teach her how to fight as a Panzer against other Panzers who challenge her.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Doris Ruridou (Masayo Kurata) and Doria Ruridou (Kikuko Inoue) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 24 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Daume, so the studio's house style defines how D4 Princess looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 5.9/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Masayo Kurata voicing Doris Ruridou gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1999, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
