Alpen Rose

About Alpen Rose

Here is what Alpen Rose (炎のアルペンローゼ・ジュディ＆ランディ) is about, retold in plain terms: a drama and romance anime by Tatsunoko Production (1985). The premise: While Randy was walking through the Swiss countryside he stumbles on a small girl, who seemed to be the only survived person from an airplane crash. The little girl didn’t remember anything, and Randy decided to take care of her and he called her Judy.

Along the way, the both go their childhood together. A few years later, Judy, now 16 years old, longs to find her past. With the help of Randy, she leaves to research her origins.

With drama at the core, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Kenyuu Horiuchi voices Narrator, one of the main characters driving the story. This one is best suited to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 20 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Tatsunoko Production is the studio behind Alpen Rose, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. Because it leans on drama, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Its 6.7/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Voice casting, including Kenyuu Horiuchi as Narrator, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. It aired in 1985, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
