Noragami

About Noragami

Here is what Noragami (ノラガミ) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, adventure and comedy anime by bones (2014). In short: Minor god Yato is down on his luck. Fed up with his slacker lifestyle, his partner abruptly quits.

Along the way, he has no money, no worshippers, and no shrine to call home. Just when things are starting to seem hopeless, a bus accident forces him to cross paths with Hiyori Iki, a sweet and perky high school girl. After the accident, Hiyori's soul has a bad habit of slipping out of her body, and after enlisting Yato's help to get her back to normal, she kicks off to fall into the world of spirits and gods.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Yato (Hiroshi Kamiya) and Hiyori Iki (Maaya Uchida) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by bones, so the studio's house style defines how Noragami looks and moves on screen. Because it leans on action, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. At 7.8/10 it earns a solid reception, a safe pick for fans of the genre. Voice casting, including Hiroshi Kamiya as Yato, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. It aired in 2014, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
