About X

If you are hunting for a new action series, X deserves a look (2001). The setup goes like this. At its core: His destiny has finally arrived as the young Shirou Kamui returns to Tokyo after 6 years. A mighty psychic, Kamui vows to protect the happiness of his childhood companions Fuuma and Kotori, even if it means avoiding them.

Next up: Fate is cruel, whether or not Kamui aims to be involved; he holds the future of the world in his hands, given the choice of becoming a Dragon of Heaven or a Dragon of Earth. The Seven Seals gather, and so do the Seven Angels; all individuals who have their destiny carved out as one who would fight for the fate of the realm. What future will Kamui choose to become reality?

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Madhouse, so the studio's house style defines how X looks and moves on screen. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. At 7.4/10 it earns a solid reception, a safe pick for fans of the genre. Released in 2001, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
