About sola

Here is what sola is about, retold in plain terms: a drama, romance and slice of life anime by diomedéa and Nomad (2007). In short: Sola's story revolves around Yorito Morimiya, the main protagonist, who is a young boy attending high school. He loves taking pictures of the sky at any time of day and any time of the year.

Soon after, one day, Yorito chooses to take a picture of the sunrise overlooking the bay, but is deterred when he crosses paths with a peculiar girl attempting to force a vending machine that stole her money to give her what she tried to buy—a can of. Yorito helps her with forcing the machine while attempting to strike up conversation with her, despite it being four in the morning. Yorito tells her why he is here, but by the time he has forced the can out of the machine, the girl has mysteriously vanished.

As a drama title, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Yorito Morimiya (Nobuhiko Okamoto) and Matsuri Shihou (Mamiko Noto) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. At 13 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by diomedéa and Nomad, so the studio's house style defines how sola looks and moves on screen. The drama focus matters here: character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. With a 6.7/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Nobuhiko Okamoto as Yorito Morimiya, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2007, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
