Megazone 23

About Megazone 23

Megazone 23 (メガゾーン23) blends action, mecha and mystery by Artland (1985). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. What the story covers: Motorcycle enthusiast Shogo mistakenly comes into possession of a government prototype bike. Pursued by ruthless goverment agents he plans to save himself by exposing the bike to the public on a live TV show hosted by a popular singing star.

More of the story: Even the lovely Eve has secrets of her own and the government has much more to hide than just a transforming military motorcycle. As Shogo kicks off to unravel the mystery of the bike, he finds out a reality-shattering secret about the metropolis and the world he thought he knew.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Shougo Yahagi (Masato Kubota) and B.D. (Kaneto Shiozawa) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. At 1 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Artland is the studio behind Megazone 23, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.6/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Masato Kubota as Shougo Yahagi, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 1985, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
