The Magnificent KOTOBUKI

About The Magnificent KOTOBUKI

Meet The Magnificent KOTOBUKI (荒野のコトブキ飛行隊), an action and adventure anime by Digital Frontier (2019). Here is the premise in a nutshell. At its core: The story takes place in a barren frontier where people trade goods with each other in order to help each other survive. The Kotobuki Squadron are bodyguards for hire, led by a strict but beautiful squadron leader, an unreliable commanding officer, and a true artisan of a crew chief.

Also worth knowing: Alongside pilots who don't lack for personality, they take to the air in dogfights, letting the engine noise of their Hayabusa fighters ring out in the skies.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Kirie (Sayumi Suzushiro) and Reona (Asami Seto) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. At 12 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Digital Frontier, which means the visual identity of The Magnificent KOTOBUKI follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.5/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Sayumi Suzushiro voicing Kirie gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 2019, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
