The Buried Tree Devil

About The Buried Tree Devil

Looking for background on The Buried Tree Devil (盗墓笔记之秦岭神树)? This adventure, mystery and supernatural series by Qiyuan Yinghua (2021) starts out like this. What the story covers: After returning to Hangzhou from his past two adventures in Nansha, Wu Xie suddenly receives a call from his long-lost childhood companion Lao Yang. He talks to Wu Xie about their adventure in the hinterlands of Qinling Mountain three years ago and invites Wu Xie to explore the age-old ruins there again.

From there, during their adventure, Wu Xie and Lao Yang witness a giant taimen, a grand underground waterfall, and an unfathomable ancient sacred tree. Meanwhile Zhang Qiling, who has been elusive from the start, is secretly helping Wu Xie.

With adventure at the core, exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. It will appeal most to anyone who enjoys travel-the-world storytelling. With 12 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Qiyuan Yinghua is the studio behind The Buried Tree Devil, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The adventure focus matters here: exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. Its 5.9/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Released in 2021, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
