Oreimo

About Oreimo

Here is what Oreimo (俺の妹がこんなに可愛いわけがない) is about, retold in plain terms: a comedy and slice of life anime by AIC Build and Jumondou (2010). At its core: Kousaka Kyousuke, a normal 17-year-old high school student living in Chiba, has not gotten along with his younger sister Kirino in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes.

Along the way, it seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever. One day however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime which had fallen in his house's entrance way.

In a comedy series like this, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Kyousuke Kousaka (Yuuichi Nakamura) and Kirino Kousaka (Ayana Taketatsu) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who want something light between heavier series. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with AIC Build and Jumondou, which means the visual identity of Oreimo follows that studio's craft. Because it leans on comedy, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. With a 6.5/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Yuuichi Nakamura as Kyousuke Kousaka, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2010, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
