Potemayo

About Potemayo

Here is what Potemayo (ぽてまよ) is about, retold in plain terms: a comedy anime by J.C.STAFF (2007). What the story covers: Sunao Moriyama stumbles on a peculiar but cute creature that he names Potemayo. Potemayo starts following him everywhere, usually riding on top of his head.

From there, his discovery grows into the center of attention in his class at school. Soon after, a similar creature appears, and is named Guchuko by one of Sunao's classmates. However, Guchuko doesn't seem to be as good-natured as Potemayo.

As a comedy title, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Voice work is led by Kana Hanazawa as Potemayo and Eri Kitamura as Sunao Moriyama. This one is best suited to viewers who want something light between heavier series. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

J.C.STAFF is the studio behind Potemayo, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. Because it leans on comedy, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. With a 6.9/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Kana Hanazawa as Potemayo, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2007, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
