About maboroshi

maboroshi (アリスとテレスのまぼろし工場) arrives as a drama anime by MAPPA (2023), and the premise is easy to summarize. In short: Masamune, a third-year middle school learner, lives in a town where all the exits have been sealed off due to a sudden explosion at a steel mill, causing time to stand still. Residents are forbidden from making any changes and spend their suffocating days in the hopes of returning to normalcy someday.

Further in, one day, Masamune's mysterious classmate Mutsumi guides him to the fifth furnace of the steel mill, where they encounter a girl who cannot speak and resembles a wild wolf. The meeting between the two girls and Masamune disrupts the balance of the realm, and the unstoppable "impulse of love" from boys and girls tired of their daily lives starts to destroy the world.

With drama at the core, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Voice work is led by Junya Enoki as Masamune Kikuiri and Reina Ueda as Mutsumi Sagami. If you count yourself among viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action, put it on your list. At 1 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.
