Astro Boy (1980)

About Astro Boy (1980)

Here is what Astro Boy (1980) (鉄腕アトム) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, adventure and mecha anime by Tezuka Productions (1980). What the story covers: Creating a robotic boy in the image of his recently deceased son Tobio, Professor Tenma thought nothing could go wrong now that his beloved child had been "reborn"... that is. Before long, however, the robot is kidnapped and spirited away to a robot circus in America, where he is soon rescued by Dr.

Also worth knowing: Ochanomizu, and taken into his care. Tobio is given the new name Tetsuwan Atom, and transforms into Japan's crime-fighting hero, although his anti-violent pacifist views and overall childlike naivety tend to clash with his battles often.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Kuroo Hazama (Nachi Nozawa) and Pinoko (Junko Hori) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. At 52 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Tezuka Productions is the studio behind Astro Boy (1980), and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 6.9/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Voice casting, including Nachi Nozawa as Kuroo Hazama, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 1980, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
