Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden Part 2

About Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden Part 2

Here is what Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden Part 2 (曇天に笑う<外伝> ～宿命、双頭の風魔～) is about, retold in plain terms: an action anime by WIT STUDIO and BLADE (2018). In short: The Fuuma ninja clan is a concealed ninja tribe that seeks to welcome the “Orochi” when it resurrects every 300 years. In the clan we find twin brothers, Isuke and Isame, who live cursed lives after being persecuted by their tribe for being twins.

Along the way, this tragedy is only amplified as Isuke is faced with an impossible choice in the clan's twisted rite of passage.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Shirasu Kinjou (Takahiro Sakurai) and Kotarou Fuuma (Kouji Yusa) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. At 1 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with WIT STUDIO and BLADE, which means the visual identity of Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden Part 2 follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. At 7.2/10 it earns a solid reception, a safe pick for fans of the genre. Voice casting, including Takahiro Sakurai as Shirasu Kinjou, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2018, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
