Anime-Gataris

About Anime-Gataris

Anime-Gataris (アニメガタリズ) arrives as a comedy anime by WAO World (2017), and the premise is easy to summarize. At its core: The anime centers on Minoa Asagaya, a new high school pupil in Sakaneko Private High School. Despite being a novice to anime, Minoa's classmate Arisu Kamiigusa invites her to make an "anime research club" at school.

Another thread: Through conversations with her classmate Miko Kouenji, as well as various anime-loving upperclassmen, Minoa gradually gets hooked on anime. While they stand against the pupil council's continuous efforts to disband their club, and they ignore the impending end of the world, they talk about anime, whether in Akiba, or in real-life "sacred place" anime settings.

With comedy at the core, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Masato Gomon (Makoto Furukawa) and Matsuri Toda (Miyu Takagi) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who want something light between heavier series, put it on your list. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by WAO World, so the studio's house style defines how Anime-Gataris looks and moves on screen. Within the comedy category, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Its 6.1/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Makoto Furukawa voicing Masato Gomon gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2017, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
