Appleseed XIII

About Appleseed XIII

Meet Appleseed XIII, an action, sci-fi and mecha anime by Production I.G, Welz Animation Studios (2011). Here is the premise in a nutshell. In short: After facing massive destruction from a devastating war, the city Olympus has become the last stronghold as the center of command for the world. In order to protect the city from a group of terrorists known as the Argonauts, former LAPD SWAT member, Deunan Knotts, runs special military forces consisting of Biroids (cloned humans) and her cyborg partner Brialeos.

More of the story: Knotts must protect the metropolis at all costs but is met with difficulties when Al Ceides, the Argonaut leader thought to be dead, resurfaces and causes problems.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. This one is best suited to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Production I.G, Welz Animation Studios, which means the visual identity of Appleseed XIII follows that studio's craft. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.4/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Released in 2011, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
