Girlfriend, Girlfriend

About Girlfriend, Girlfriend

Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Kanojo mo Kanojo) arrives as a comedy anime by unknown (2021), and the premise is easy to summarize. What the story covers: After harboring an unrequited love for years, Naoya Mukai finally gets to date his childhood ally, Saki Saki. However, just as he tries to commit himself to this relationship, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase.

As things develop, at first, Naoya tries to reject her but is soon overcome by feelings of not wanting to hurt Nagisa. Attempting to avoid betraying his girlfriend's trust in him, Naoya thinks up a "solution" to make both girls happy—two-timing. Naturally, Saki rebuffs this idea, but through Naoya's and Nagisa's persistence, she reluctantly submits.

With comedy at the core, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Think of it as a pick for viewers who want something light between heavier series.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by unknown, so the studio's house style defines how Girlfriend, Girlfriend looks and moves on screen. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Released in 2021, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
