Momo, the Girl God of Death

About Momo, the Girl God of Death

Meet Momo, the Girl God of Death (しにがみのバラッド。), a drama, fantasy and psychological anime by Group TAC and Ginga Ya (2006). Here is the premise in a nutshell. What the story covers: A girl wrapped in white, her name is Momo...in her hand lies a blunt yet shiny scythe. By her side is a winged black cat by the name of Daniel.

Another thread: Carrying the souls of humans, the girl's existence parallels to that of a "Death God" or "Shinigami". At the instant when this white Death God touches the hearts of humans, the realm is filled with kindness and grief...

In a drama series like this, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Momo (Akiko Kobayashi) and Daniel (Ai Shimizu) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 6 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Group TAC and Ginga Ya, so the studio's house style defines how Momo, the Girl God of Death looks and moves on screen. The drama focus matters here: character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. With a 6.5/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Akiko Kobayashi as Momo, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2006, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
