[RAW] Asari-chan

About [RAW] Asari-chan

If you are hunting for a new comedy series, [RAW] Asari-chan deserves a look (1982). The setup goes like this. The premise: Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Kazumi Fukushima after the manga series by Muroyama Mayumi, this anime follows Asari, a normal fourth-grade girl. One day, while bargain shopping, she wins the lucky ticket at a lottery for a one-person trip to Hawaii.

Another thread: Chaos reigns as her family, the Beach's, confront over who should go. The ticket is lost in a bonfire, ironically. Other circumstances follow when the family comes across out that the travel agency offered to "give the equal amount of half the travel expenses in cash for the ticket" from an employee of the supermarket Asahi had shopped at.

As a comedy title, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. This one is best suited to viewers who want something light between heavier series.

Production & Appeal

Toei Animation is the studio behind [RAW] Asari-chan, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. With a 6.0/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Released in 1982, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
