Cat Soup

About Cat Soup

If you are hunting for a new comedy series, Cat Soup (ねこぢる草) deserves a look (2001). The setup goes like this. In short: Cat Soup is an extremely difficult film to describe, due to its awesome surrealism and almost nonexistant dialogue. It is more a work of art than an anime.

From there, there are many underlying themes, such as the transcience of man's existence, but it can be enjoyed without understanding any of them. The plot, though simple, isn't necessarily understandable without being explained. The main character, a cat named Nyatto, embarks upon an adventure to save his sister's soul, which was ripped in two when Nyatto tried to save her from Death.

In a comedy series like this, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. If you count yourself among viewers who want something light between heavier series, put it on your list. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
