Labyrinth of Flames

About Labyrinth of Flames

Here is what Labyrinth of Flames (炎のらびりんす) is about, retold in plain terms: an action, adventure and comedy anime by Studio Fantasia (2000). What the story covers: Meet Galan, a Russian spastic geek who'd do anything to be a real, live samurai. But that`s just an impossible dream... or is it?

As things develop, when his ally Natsu, who is a successor of Japanese emigrants family, gives him the gift of a long-lost sword, odd events unfold, and even stranger people drop out of the sky to attack. Now Galan needs to overcome his ineptitude and join a bunch of beautiful women in a wacky romp through a kingdom that time forgot. Hey, what could be better?

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Dotto Galan (Kouichi Toochika) and Carrie White (Mami Kingetsu) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. The run is 2 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Studio Fantasia, which means the visual identity of Labyrinth of Flames follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 6.0/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Kouichi Toochika voicing Dotto Galan gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2000, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
