The Wonderland

About The Wonderland

The Wonderland (バースデー・ワンダーランド) arrives as an adventure anime by Signal.MD (2019), and the premise is easy to summarize. In short: The story follows Akane, a girl with no self-confidence. On the day before her birthday, she runs into an enigmatic alchemist Hippocrates and their pupil Pipo, who both tell her they're on an assignment to save the world.

Beyond that: Together, they set out from the basement for "Wonderland," and Akane finds herself labelled Wonderland's savior.

In an adventure series like this, exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. Akane (Mayu Matsuoka) and Hippocrates (Masachika Ichimura) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to anyone who enjoys travel-the-world storytelling. The run is 1 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Signal.MD, so the studio's house style defines how The Wonderland looks and moves on screen. Within the adventure category, exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. With a 6.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Mayu Matsuoka voicing Akane gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2019, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
