Witch Girl Meg

About Witch Girl Meg

Looking for background on Witch Girl Meg (魔女っ子メグちゃん)? This mahou shoujo series by Toei Animation (1974) starts out like this. The premise: Megu is sent to Earth in her early teens, she is adopted by Mammi Kanzaki, a former witch who gave up her royal ambitions to wed a mortal. Mammi bewitches her husband and their two children, Rabi and Apo, into believing that Megu has always been the eldest child of the family.

Another thread: Under Mammi's tutelage, Megu learns to control both her abilities and impulses in order to prove her worthiness for the crown. This Rite-of-Passage subtext is continued throughout the series.

As a mahou shoujo title, tone, pacing and character writing decide how well it works. Voice work is led by Rihoko Yoshida as Megu Kanzaki and Noriko Tsukase as Non. It will appeal most to viewers looking for something new to follow. With 72 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
