Z-Mind

About Z-Mind

Meet Z-Mind (思春期美少女合体ロボ ジーマイン THE BATTLING DAYS OF THE "SHITAMACHI" VIRGINS), an action and mecha anime by Sunrise and Imagin (1999). Here is the premise in a nutshell. What the story covers: Old school is back! And girl ability reigns supreme!

More of the story: Ayame, Sumire, Renge, and Satsuki are charged with the protection of the Earth from a mighty new foe. These girls may be in for more than they`ve bargained for! They`ll have to not only master the experimental mobile armor: Z-Mind, hold down their part time jobs, all this while keeping their lives... normal!

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Ayame Hanakawado (Yuuki Hamano) and Sumire Hanakawado (Naoko Miura) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 6 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Sunrise and Imagin is the studio behind Z-Mind, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 5.9/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. Voice casting, including Yuuki Hamano as Ayame Hanakawado, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 1999, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
