Heavy Metal L-Gaim

About Heavy Metal L-Gaim

Here is what Heavy Metal L-Gaim (重戦機エルガイム) is about, retold in plain terms: an adventure, drama and mecha anime by Sunrise (1984). In short: In the Pentagona System, a young man by the name of Daba Myroad leads a rebellion against Pentagona's leader, Oldna Poseidal. Daba's not alone however, meeting a large number of allies along his quest and having in his possession the powerful L-Gaim, a white Heavy Metal left to him by his father.

With adventure at the core, exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. Daba Myroad (Hirokazu Hiramatsu) and Fanneria Amu (Chieko Honda) are two of the characters you will meet early.

This one is best suited to anyone who enjoys travel-the-world storytelling. At 54 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Sunrise, which means the visual identity of Heavy Metal L-Gaim follows that studio's craft. The adventure focus matters here: exploration, new locations and a steady sense of momentum drive the story. Its 6.8/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Hirokazu Hiramatsu voicing Daba Myroad gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1984, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
