About Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Brilliantly Shining Heresy

Looking for background on Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Brilliantly Shining Heresy (装甲騎兵ボトムズ 赫奕たる異端)? This drama, mecha and sci-fi series by Sunrise (1994) starts out like this. At its core: Chirico is awoken from cold sleep and separated from Fyana. His tries to find her come to the attention of a Nextant, the replacement for the Perfect Soldier program.

Along the way, at the same time, the new Pope is to be nominated, and Chirico is religiously considered to be "The Untouchable". With one of the nominees related to the Nextant, Chirico's actions will have far-reaching political ramifications.

As a drama title, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Voice work is led by Hozumi Gouda as Chirico Cuvie and Kazuko Yanaga as Fyana. Think of it as a pick for viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 5 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
