Genshiken 2

About Genshiken 2

Genshiken 2 (げんしけん2) blends comedy and slice of life by ARMS (2007). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. In short: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, otherwise known as Genshiken, is now under the charge of a more confident Sasahara. Things have changed in between semesters, and the otaku club now has a new otaku-hating member named Ogiue.

Another thread: Sasahara's initial goal of starting a doujin circle and selling those fan-made magazines at the next Comic Festival grows into a reality, but reality is a cruel master... who apparently crossplays. Afterward, the club is abuzz with talk about Tanaka and Ohno's relationship, which takes a hesitant step forward.

With comedy at the core, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Harunobu Madarame (Nobuyuki Hiyama) and Saki Kasukabe (Satsuki Yukino) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who want something light between heavier series. The run is 12 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

ARMS is the studio behind Genshiken 2, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The comedy focus matters here: timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. At 7.6/10 it earns a solid reception, a safe pick for fans of the genre. On the casting side, Nobuyuki Hiyama voicing Harunobu Madarame gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2007, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
