Wake Up, Girls! The Movie

About Wake Up, Girls! The Movie

Looking for background on Wake Up, Girls! The Movie (Wake Up, Girls! 七人のアイドル)? This music and slice of life series by Tatsunoko Production and Ordet (2014) starts out like this. The premise: Green Leaves Entertainment is in the worst situation any Talent Management Agency can be in... they have NO talent! Desperate for an act, President Junko Tange targets the idol singer market and gives her flunky Matsuda his marching orders: get a girl group to manage, even if it means building one from scratch!

Along the way, since complete singing groups rarely appear out of thin air, Matsuda's now in the difficult position of having to find girls with the right skills who don't already have contracts with Japan's music industry. That girl at the Maid Café? Good enough! A lead singer who's been fired from another group? Sure, why not?

As a music title, performance scenes and soundtrack choices are central. Voice work is led by Airi Eino as Airi Hayashida and Nanami Yamashita as Nanami Hisami. It will appeal most to viewers who care about music and live performance. The run is 1 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Tatsunoko Production and Ordet is the studio behind Wake Up, Girls! The Movie, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The music focus matters here: performance scenes and soundtrack choices are central. With a 6.8/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Airi Eino as Airi Hayashida, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2014, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
