Canaan

About Canaan

Canaan (カナン) arrives as an action anime by P.A.WORKS (2009), and the premise is easy to summarize. In short: Oosawa Maria is a Japanese photographer currently working in Shanghai, China. Along with her partner Mino, she searches for potential newsworthy stories throughout the city.

Soon after, when odd events occur at a local festival, Maria and Mino immediately investigate. Fast, the two are immersed in a clash between unknown masked men and a peculiar, white-haired woman. Just when Maria is about to be caught in the crossfire, an old ally by the name of Canaan appears and helps Maria escape.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Canaan (Miyuki Sawashiro) and Alphard Al Sheya (Maaya Sakamoto) are two of the characters you will meet early. It will appeal most to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 13 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with P.A.WORKS, which means the visual identity of Canaan follows that studio's craft. Because it leans on action, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. A 7.1/10 score points to a dependable, well-liked series. Voice casting, including Miyuki Sawashiro as Canaan, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2009, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
